This is a family favourite and once you've made the wontons its super easy and nourishing. High in protein and load the veggies into the soup or create a nutrient dense bone broth.
What you'll need for the wontons
500g of pork mince
200g of raw prawns
2tbsp light soy
1 tsp of sesame oil
Pepper
Wonton wrappers (I like to get two packets of 50)
In a bowl I like to defrost the prawns, then once defrosted I chop them up. Then add them back to the bowl with the mince and the other ingredients, stir well to combine and season.
Get a little bowl of water. Add a teaspoon of the filling to your wrapper, wet you finger and go around one corner/right angle. Fold and stick then add a little bit of water and twist to stick into a wonton shape. You can also use a dumpling folder if easier.
YouTube has videos on how to fold a wonton if you get stuck.
Set aside on some baking paper until ready to boil.
When ready to make your wontons I like to boil a pot of water and then add the wontons. My kids like to eat 6-8 at a time. Boil for 5-6 minutes so they are floating to the top of the pot. Drain or spoon out and pop into your desired bowl. Ladle over the soup or if you have pickier eaters they might like them plain.
For the soup
I like to make a broth/bone broth then create the soup from that stock. You can also use some vegetables or chicken stock and add a chunk of ginger, spinach and carrots for sweetness.
Once your soup is ready I like to ladle it over 6 wontons and sprinkle with chopped spring onions. Serve with another splash of soy or even some chilli oil.
My kids love these for breakfast too.
